Myoungjae Kim | South Korea

Kim Myoungjae works in film, and while still in college is part of a large production team that produces short films, commercials and sketches for local businesses and government bodies. His compulsory military training instilled in him the confidence to finally turn a hobby into a career. His works display a sense of lyricism and sense of timelessness, that belie their commercial nature; his fascination with the effects of natural light and prefers to work with natural light. Inspired by the use of natural light and mise-en- scène, he admires the work of fellow Korean cinematographer Kyung-pyo Hong in Mother, and Mexican Emmanuel Lubezki’s award winning film The Revenant. He is a DOP at Adieux Pictures; a group of artists, creators and film-makers whose image works tend to minimalism. His films have mostly been shown within Korea, and include Territory; Goodbye, Hello; Free Throw and The Perfect Cut, among others. Myoungjae majored in Art, Culture and Image from the Pusan National University, and graduated from Busan Namsan High School. He has worked with drones and VR filming for his projects.
